Notes: Radio Santa Cruz from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia was heard here in southern Ontario, Canada on occasion when propagation favored a North-South path. This brief Spanish language recording was made on November 9, 1996 on 6135 kHz shortwave around 2300 hours UTC.

Receiver and antenna: Panasonic RF-3100 and longwire antenna

Notes: In November 1996, the Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation in Omdurman was relatively easy to spot on their out-of-band frequency of 9200 kHz shortwave. In this brief recording, chanting is heard followed by time pips on the hour. Announcements are in Arabic. According to the 1996 Passport to World Band Radio, this particular transmission is listed as Republic of Sudan Radio.

Notes: Pirate radio station The Voice of Christmas as heard in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada on December 8, 1996 at around 1610 hours UTC. The frequency was 6955 kHz USB.

Here are a few blended airchecks with Christmas music and frequent station ID's by the Pirate Elf stating they are "the only pirate radio station broadcasting from the North Pole." P.O. Box in Providence, Rhode Island given for reception reports. Concludes with their "interval signal" tune.

Notes: Tough to log here in southern Ontario, Canada, Radio Christian Voice from Lusaka, Zambia was operating on the same frequency as time signal station CHU, Ottawa, Canada. Here is what 3330 kHz sounded like on October 14, 1996 around 0400 UTC. A good station ID from Radio Christian Voice can be heard in spite of the time beep interference from CHU.

Radio For Peace International: Summer of 1996

This is Radio For Peace International from the summer of 1996. I can't remember the frequency but I'm sure others will. I recorded this about 01:00 UTC with my Uniden CR-2021. By the way, it's the same model as the Radio Shack 430 receiver but it had LEDs rather than a analogue tuning meter.
