Notes: Here is the interval signal of Radio Korea in Seoul as received in Brantford, Ontario, Canada circa 1983 on 15575 kHz shortwave. Bilingual identifications are heard followed by sign on in English. I was always happy to hear a strong clear signal from that part of the world.

Notes: By the 1980's, UAE Radio stations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi were using high powered transmitters and could often be heard nice and clear here in Southern Ontario, Canada with English language programs.
Here is an aircheck circa 1983 from United Arab Emirates Radio from Dubai broadcasting on 21655 kHz.

Super Rock KYOI: September 13, 1983

Here is a live off-air 47-minute recording of Super Rock KYOI from Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands. I likely recorded this about 1100 UTC since their signal was best in our early mornings and I believe this was on 11900 kHz.

Their programming was mostly Top 40 rock. I believe the station struggled to retain listeners and ended being sold several times. I'm not sure of the complete story of this station and if it is still the station operating on Saipan. According the the Ontario DX Association's Target Listening publication: Stations on Tinian and Saipan were destroyed by Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018. Unknown when they will be rebuilt.

KNLS Test Transmission: August 1, 1983

KNLS - Anchor Point, Alaska, from what I believe is a test transmission on August 1, 1983. According to Wikipedia, KNLS signed on the air July 23, 1983. The program consists of the sign-on ID in English and Russian then is mostly a mix of Big Band music. This recording is 31 minutes long.

Tom's receiver was a Sony ICF-2001 and he started recording at 09:00 UTC on 11.820 MHz. His location was South Bend, Indiana (USA):
