Notes: Back in the early 1970s, Radio Canada International ran a very popular interval signal series on their SWL Digest program. This was hopefully to help DXer's identify that sought after station. I recall recording a few of these programs, and while going over one of my old cassette tapes recently, I came across a segment where they were presenting a number of African interval signals. Subsequently, I have uncovered five additional segments, or at least, portions of them. As these were originally recorded with an open mike to the speaker of the receiver, some room noise (voices) may be detected, as well as small amounts of unedited material near the ends of some of the segments. These were recorded at Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, likely on 9625 kHz.

[This] recording is of the Shortwave Listener's Corner program from December 27, 1987. This edition of the program was a bit unusual in that I don't think they read anyone's letters, but the program definitely does have an Arctic theme to it, plus, Radio Canada International plays a few Christmas carols sung in the Inuktitut language. I certainly appreciate Ian McFarland giving me this studio recording of the show, since I missed it when it was first broadcast.

Notes: Radio Canada International English language shortwave broadcast to Africa that aired on January 9, 1982 including a newscast and the Shortwave Listener's Digest with Ian McFarland. The SWL Digest included Glenn Hauser's look back at shortwave in 1981, report about the Voice of Free China being relayed on WYFR Radio, a taped message from David Monson formerly on Belgium Radio & TV, and an update on the Handicapped Aid Program.

This English language broadcast includes music from the Dominican Republic, talk about a recent power outage, SPEEDX (Society for the Preservation of the Engrossing Enjoyment of DXing) magazine, ANARC (Association of North American Radio Clubs) convention at Radio Canada International in Montreal, and a NASWA (North American Shortwave Association) DX Report with Glenn Hauser.

This program's highlights are: A note on the upcoming ANARC convention in Montreal (which I attended), Adrian Peterson's report on mediumwave stations heard from Southern Asia, a follow-up question regarding Larry Magne's report on antennae for apartment dwellers, Glenn Hauser's DX news. This program from January 24, 1982 from my archives is from Radio Canada International which was called Bonsoir Africa. This was somewhat of a mailbag program which read listeners letters. I was fortunate to have a tape recorder running since this was a program about astronomy that was requested by me. This may be the first time I ever heard my name read on shortwave. What a thrill. Enjoy.

Here is another one of my many recordings of Shortwave Listener's Digest from Radio Canada International, this time from January 4, 1982. This program highlights are: Glenn Hauser with his Year in Review for the previous year of 1981; part 1. Larry Magne with a test report for the Panasonic RF-9000 which listed at $US 3800!!!. The program ends with Glenn Hauser's second part of his review of the previous year's highlights. Unfortunately the broadcast suffers from some adjacent-channel interference.

Bill notes that he originally made these recordings on MiniDisc and believes he started the recording around 5:00-6:00 pm EST, tuned to 5.960 MHz. Bill also adds:

I recorded this after I got home from work. Having worked in Tower 2 on the 92nd floor in 1979 & 1980, this was a very emotional day for me. I flipped the radio onto RCI to hear a different view from the US stations. I recorded two hours onto a MiniDisc. There is a break at where I switched discs at about the one hour mark. I'm not sure of the exact time, but it would be around 2200 UTC.

Spectres of Shortwave soundtrack via WRMI: November 13, 2016

The following recording of the Spectres of Shortwave soundtrack was recorded on November 13, 2016 on 7.57 MHz starting around 23:00 UTC. Note that the audio ends abruptly--likely a technical error at WRMI. I kept recording one minute after the audio stopped (but the AM carrier was still present).

Radio Canada International recorded on December 7, 1981. This is another from my archive of old recordings of Radio Canada International's Shortwave Listeners Digest. This episode contains discussion of a new mediumwave and longwave broadcasting plan; Who's on the Air featuring Azad Kashmir Radio presented by Adrian Peterson; DX News with Glenn Hauser. An item in the DX news mentions the return of Radio Uganda's North American Service. I logged this a few days later and am also including a recording.

Radio Canada International's "The Link" via Shortwave Service: May 1, 2016

Live, off-air recording of the weekly Radio Canada International (RCI) program "The Link" transmitted by Shortwave Service (shortwaveservice.com) in Euskirchen, near Bonn, Germany, using a transmitter at Kall-Krekel, Germany, on 1 May 2016 from 14:00 to about 14:30 UTC on a shortwave frequency of 6005 kHz. The transmitter power is 1 kW with an essentially non-directional antenna. The recording begins with the interval signal of Shortwave Service. The edition of "The Link" that was broadcast was the one posted on line on 16 April 2016.

The RCI broadcasts over Shortwave Service began on Saturday, 2 April 2016, with "The Link" being transmitted at 14:00 UTC on 7310 kHz, while the equivalent French-language program "Tam-Tam Canada" is transmitted at the same time on 6005 kHz. Beginning 1 May 2016, a second airing of "The Link" occurs on Sundays at 14:00 UTC on 6005 kHz. The program has also been known as "The Link: Online" since the demise of RCI's own shortwave broadcast facility.

The broadcast was received by the Web-interface wideband software-defined radio at the University of Twente in Enschede, The Netherlands, with a "Mini-Whip" antenna in AM mode with 5.09 kHz total bandwidth RF filtering. Reception was fair with some noise and fading.
