To mark the 30th anniversary of the Romanian Revolution, a recording of "Austrian Shortwave Panorama", Radio Austria International's weekly DX programme presented by David Hermges. This was a special edition broadcast a few days after Romania's 1989 revolution originally broadcast on 31st December 1989 (although this recording is of a repeat from sometime in 1990). Contains off-air recordings of Radio Bucharest and Radio Free Europe (in English, Romanian and other languages) recounting the events of the revolution. (Sent via The Shortwave Radio Audio Archive)

For your listening pleasure: nearly two hours of Radio Romania International recorded on 9,730 kHz starting at 00:01 UTC on April 30, 2018. The receiver used was a WinRadio Excalibur and antenna a horizontal delta loop. Location was North Carolina, USA.

Radio Bucharest, Romania, on Shortwave New Year's Eve 1989.  The beginning is missing.   Frequency not logged but was probably 6155 or 11830, time 0200 UTC.

The Ceausescu regime had finally been toppled and executed outside the capital Bucharest.  These were heady times; Romania was one of the last of the "Iron curtain" countries to change its Communist government.

But now Ceausescu is out and Romania has its first taste of fresh air.  This program reflects that new-found liberalisation.  The announcer at 0102 says "FREE Romania" and at 01:12 - 02:33 the American Ambassador Alan Green Jr sends greetings from President GHWB.  After that, the majority of the program is traditional music and celebrations of Romanian new year.  The two announcers are full of national pride!

There is a slight gap at 11:19 - 11:23.  Frequency and contact information are at the end of the program, 25:15.

The picture of Bucharest is the cover of a verification card from 1967 in my possession.

Radio Romania International: 06 February 2017

This recording of Radio Romania International was made on 06 February 2017--the sixth day of massive protests to stop a Romanian law that would have eased corruption penalties.

This recording was made on 5,960 kHz starting at 0100 UTC. Receiver used was a WinRadio Excalibur with a large horizontal delta loop antenna in North Carolina.

Antena Satelor: February 25, 2016

Antena Satelor, Romania recorded in London, UK on February 25, 2016 at 0143 UTC on the frequency of 153 kHz using a Lowe HF-150 radio with the Lowe PR-150 preselector, DX Engineering NCC-1 phaser connected to two Wellbrook ALA1530S+ antennas (positioned indoors) to mitigate severe local man-made interference. The transmitter is located in Brașov, Romania and has a power rating of 200 kW. This is a local service targeted at the domestic audience. At about 0530 UTC (0730 local time in Brașov; 3 hours 46 minutes into the recording) the night-time skywave propagation path is finally completely disrupted by the sunlight reaching into Romania (26 minutes after sunrise).

Antena Satelor, Romania recorded in London, UK on September 14, 2015 at 0100 UTC on the frequency of 153 kHz using a Lowe HF-150 radio with a Lowe PR-150 preselector and a Wellbrook ALA1530S+ antenna (positioned indoors). The transmitter is located in Brașov, Romania and has a power rating of 200 kW. This is a local service targeted at the domestic audience. The recording ends with the Romanian national anthem.
